2nd Grade
• Games are played on 8 ft hoops
• Only Man to Man defense – Players must stay on their man (No double teaming)
• No stealing of passes or stealing off the dribble
• No blocking shots
• No back court defense
• Traveling and Double dribble should be consistently taught throughout games
• 4 – 10 minute quarters with substitutions made every 5:00. (Clock will stop)
• Players should get equal playing time
• No score will be kept
• Emphasis in on learning fundamentals
3rd Grade
• Games are played on 8 ft hoops
• Only Man to Man defense – Players must stay on their man (No double teaming)
• No stealing off the dribble – Passes may be stolen
• No blocking shots
• No back court defense
• Traveling and Double dribble should be consistently taught throughout games
Coaches judgment on players ability whether or not to call this violation,
warnings should be issued first.
• 4 – 10 minute quarters with substitutions made every 5:00. (clock will stop)
• Players should get equal playing time
• No score will be kept
• Emphasis is on learning fundamentals
4th Grade
• Games are played on 10 ft hoops
• Only Man to Man defense – Players must stay on their man (No double teaming)
• Stealing off the dribble is permitted only on the person they are guarding
• No blocking shots
• No back court defense
• Fouls should be called to educate the players. Shooting fouls will result in 1
point being awarded to the shooting team. If the basket goes in and there is a
foul on the shot, the team will be awarded the value of the shot plus 1 point,
the opposing team will receive the ball.
• Traveling and Double dribble should be called in most cases
• 3 in the key should be taught throughout games
• 4 – 10 minute quarters with substitutions made every 5:00. (Clock will Stop)
• Players should get equal playing time
• Score will be kept until a 20 point lead is obtained by one team
• Emphasis is on learning fundamentals
5/6 Boys and Girls
• Games are played on 10 ft hoops
• Only Man to Man defense – Players must stay on their man. Players may leave
their man and double team but must return to their man. No Zone defenses will be
allowed. Any defense other than man to man will be determined as an illegal
defense. Teams will receive 1 warning for violating this rule, after which a
technical will be called for each infraction and 2 points and the ball will be
awarded to the opposing team. Players switching on screens will be permitted.
• Stealing off the dribble is permitted
• Blocking shots will be allowed
• Traveling, Double Dribble, and 3 in the key will be enforced.
• No backcourt defense until last 2 minutes of game. At this time the team that
is behind may play back court defense
• Fouls will be called. Players committing 5 fouls in a game will have to sit
remainder of game
• Players receiving technical fouls will be immediately ejected from game and
will sit following game as well. 2 points and the ball will be awarded to
opposing teams for technical fouls.
• No foul shots will be taken
• Each team will have 3 – 30 second timeouts per game
• After a team reaches 7 team fouls per half, the opposing team will receive 1
point for each additional foul committed by the opposing team.
• Shooting Fouls – if a player is fouled in the act of shooting, the team will
receive 1 point and the ball out of bounds. If the shooter makes the shot and is
fouled, the team will receive the value of the shot plus 1 point and the ball
will go to the opposing team.
• 2 – 20 minute halves with a running clock – substitutions made throughout game
at coaches discretions. Players should get equal playing time as much as
possible with each player playing a minimum of 15 minutes
• Score will be kept.
• Please remember, officials are voluntary, please do not harass or abuse the
officials. Parents or Coaches who step over the line with officiating abuse will
be asked to leave.
